                    THE FORTH BRIDGE

Built between 1883 and 1890, the Forth Bridge carries the main railway line from Edinburgh  north to Fife and beyond. The cantilever design and steel construction were pioneering feats in their day, and the bridge has become a powerful symbol of Scotland and Victorian engineering. A major refurbishment is presently underway, ensuring the health of the bridge well into the 21st century. The bridge is a major tourist attraction and is shortlisted to become a world heritage site.
