PLANNING ISSUES |
1. PORT EDGAR - The
development of Port Edgar has been under review for many years, and the
community has resisted previous plans to turn the area into a housing
estate. The latest proposals are under
consideration.
City of
Edinburgh Council are seeking a development partner and have taken the first
step by advertising in the Official Journal of the European Union. City
Development is working on the next stage by issuing a pre-qualification
Questionnaire to all parties who have noted interest. The CEC Estate
Manger has written to Queensferry and District Community Council advising of
these matters and enclosing copies of the drawings and the questionnaire. Copies
of these documents were passed to our transport and planning consultants for
comment. – there have been comments received back from our two consultants and
the Community Council has requested a meeting with CEC to discuss the points
raised and our concerns about the Port Edgar development should the preferred
replacement forth crossing be built.
An agenda item of The Project Board meeting
held on 12th December 2008 was the inclusion of local representation from the
Community Council, QBA or an Almond Ward Councillor.

ECHLINE AVENUE -
Places for People,
an 'arms length' company of the Edinburgh City Council, is proposing to build
houses on the open ground to the east of Echline Rigg flats, the ground being
bounded to the east by Echline Avenue. As part of the plans the play-ground will
be repositioned likely South of the development and to the rear of Echline
Terrace nos 39 – 48. The Community Council is presently facilitating
consultation with residents and the school on the location of the play area and
seeking views on the type of play equipment that might be installed. We would
be pleased to receive your comments

A public consultation was held in January 2005, and apart from the loss of open space, the main objections were to the materials specified, and the traffic proposals. The planning application has now been approved for a reduced number of houses and improved parking. Places for People forecast that the work will commence in the AUTUMN of 2007.
The Project Managers of Places for People attended the Council’s February meeting to discuss operational and logistics matters prior to starting work on site.
COMMUNITY COUNCIL INVOLVEMENT IN PLANNING
OBJECTIVE: To take a pro-active role in planning matters within Queensferry and Dalmeny to ensure that the Community is consulted on issues that would have an impact on the area, and their views communicated to the Edinburgh City Council Planning Department
