PLEWLANDS HOUSE

Plewlands House is a fine stone-built three storey house, owned by the National Trust and presently divided into flats. It was built as a family house by Samuel Wilson and Anna Ponton in 1641, the marriage lintel can still be seen above the main entrance to the central staircase. The house was built outside the Burgh boundary to avoid feu duty to the parish church. It is situated at the foot of The Loan, towards the west end of the High Street.
