             PRIORY CHURCH
The Episcopal Church of St. Mary of Mount Carmel stands at the west end of the High Street, at The Binks, an area from where Queen Margaret is said to have been ferried across the river to Dunfermline. A Carmelite Friary was founded on the site in the 12th century, and the present buildings are thought to date from the 13th century. After the Reformation the buildings gradually fell into disrepair, and in 1635 the church was abandoned when the Burgh Kirk was built. In 1895, after being used for many purposes, the surviving building was restored to be used by the Scottish Episcopal Church, and remains so to this day.
