BOATING                        BACK

                                                            DISLIKES

What will happen to boats in indoor storage while re-development takes place.

Wind direction on proposed pontoons will expose boats to damage.

Reduced boat storage space in Winter.  (Increase in pontoons & you assume more will stay in water.)

What are the proposals for existing pontoon users during the changes - what provision for existing users is being made.

Is there sufficient boat parking space.

Where is the Summer boat Park?  How many boats can be stored in Summer and Winter compared to the existing figures.

Where do existing boats go during proposed re-build.

Appears to be less parking & boat storage for berth owners.

Where will people who currently store boats indoors all year round be able to keep boats in secure storage.

Orientation of pontoons - prevailing wind from West.

Not enough (yacht) boat storage.

Insufficient boat storage to allow for growth.

No increase in number of pontoon spaces.

Not enough boat parking/cradle storage.

Lack of security for boats.

Concerns at amount of space made available for people going sailing.

Dredged area insufficient.

No indoor storage.

Doubts about berths being across prevailing wind, even though it may reduce tide stream effects.

North/South orientation of boats in pontoons will make entry/exit tricky in prevailing East/West winds.

Insufficient boat storage.  Summer cars/Winter boats is not exclusive - people visit throughout the year.

Boat hoist to Winter storage seems very narrow.  Will there be a chance for stepping/unstepping masts.

Pontoons seem cramped and there is no gradation for small/larger boats.

Pontoon berthing maximum length of boat that can be accommodated - rough guess 30-35 feet.

Winter storage 200.  Pontoons 500.  300 for Wintering afloat - insufficient - boats need to be ashore for re-fit.

Plans show about 200 berths - not enough - boat park not big enough.  Sheds not big enough.

Road access of pontoon still inadequate.  Pilio breakwater to far inshore.

Untrue that maintenance dredging is insufficient to improve depth of water - no regular/frequent dredging has been undertaken.

I have some concerns about adequate car parking space.  Adequate space for Winter boat parking. Boat security.

Pontoons seem orientated to make getting into berths difficult - wind direction will normally be cross.

Not enough Winter boat storage - owners take their boats to let them dry out and for maintenance - not just because of shelter.

Concerned that it looks as if the amount of dinghy park area is smaller than at present.

Dinghy park and trailer park are too far apart.

Winter boat park vulnerable to objects thrown from bridge.  Security in general.

Secure dinghy park - though is it big enough?

Improvement of boating facilities would be an important step forward without so much housing development.

Looks good if practical and secure for boats.

                                        CHANGES/IMPROVEMENTS

Good plan, more pontoons berths if possible please, give less consideration to wild life.

Is there enough spaces for boat storage in winter.

Who pays for the continual dredging once complete?

The working marina area is very 'zonal' e.g. winter boat parking where as at the moment everything is mixed, at the moment this allows constant access to all boats at all times, would the winter boat parking allow space for this constant movement of all boats?  Does this make sense?

Please include areas for drying sails indoors.

Please include indoor secure storage which people can hire for storing e.g. dingy sails, centreboards etc.

I am concerned about the provision of boating facilities compared to present provision (both yachts and dinghies, both in the summer, and winter storage.

Cheaper prices for dinghies for families with young children.

Will any boat bigger than about 25 feet be able to be berthed?? 'PE' dinghy's only!!

There needs to be a winter slipway.

Space between pontoon fingers must be adequate for larger boats.  Access/exit could be difficult.  Has attention been paid to prevailing winds?

Make sure pontoon distances are sufficient for manoeuvring.

Pontoons should mean boats lying east - west not north - south.

Ensure orientation of pontoons appropriate & sizing/spacing for different sizes of boats.

Security for boats?  Particularly in boat park.

Is sailing school water access separate from berths ie. Will berths be secure from general access.

Addition of user operated crane for small keelboats and dayboats (as they have at Granton).  Marina berth for larger vessels up to 30m.

More berths!

Wave barrier should be sited nearer entrance (ie. Further north).

Tipai launching of boats, longer jetty would be great.

Space for having boats out in the winter looks much too small.  Yachts come out in the winter for maintenance not because of winter storms. (includes his name & phone number)

Longer slipway or pontoon to access dinghies.

Slipway longer so dinghies not launched into mud.

More pontoons essential.  It is being marketed as a Marina - what's a marina without a sufficient number of boats.

There is pressure on winter storage all round the Forth.  The businesses would benefit if there is room for more boats in the winter.

?? On existing pier has virtually no more life.  Demolition necessary in 5 years max.

Is there sufficient winter boat parking?

1. More room for winter hard storage. 2. Mooring facilities for larger yachts as well. 3. Pedestrian access on west side of Hopetoun Road.

More boat storage (winter).

Marina berths not big enough for larger boats.  Pontoon fingers lying in wrong direction for prevailing winds.

Silting (therefore dredging) of a site like this will never go away.  Plans must offer provision to sustain dredging as necessary!

Need to ensure there is sufficient boat storage for the winter consult with boat owners/marina staff and future plan.

Direction of pontoon fingers are north/south no good for prevailing winds - should be east/west as existing fingers.
