TAKING STEPS

The steps to the shore from the Promenade (the only access) were badly worn, and the City Council closed them off with barriers. After many months of pressure from the community council, the City Council agreed to have the steps rebuilt
The sea has
washed away the
bottom steps of the stairs leading from the High Street to the
shore next to the Boathouse Restaurant. In addition to normal access to the
shore, these stairs are used every year for the New Year 'Looney Dook' and
they were becoming dangerous to users. The community council pressed for
action to keep the stairs in use, and the City Council erected a 'temporary'
metal stair - not ideal but at least the stair is usable. The community
council is now chasing the City Council for a permanent repair. One to watch.
