THE TOLBOOTH
The Tolbooth dominates the High Street, parts dating from the 16th century. The original building would house the burgh court house, council meeting place and prison. In the 18th century the building was enlarged and in 1888 a clock was installed to mark Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee. In 1894 part of the building was replaced by the Rosebery Hall, gifted to the town by the fifth Earl of Rosebery.
